"Due to a software issue, the Hybrid Powertrain Control Module (HPCM) may inadvertently shift to neutral while driving, come to a stop and automatically shift to 'Park'," the company says in its recall notice.
"If this occurs and the driver shifts back into drive, the vehicle will enter a limp home mode which provides limited torque at low speeds.
"The vehicle coasting to a stop whilst driving or loss of motive power could increase the risk of an accident causing injury or death to vehicle occupants and/or other road users."
