A teenage driver had a close call when his car crashed through a barrier and careened off an overpass plunging five metres onto a path.

Despite the drop, the 17-year-old driver managed to walk away from the crash without any serious physical harm, South Australia Police said.

The Mitsubishi sedan landed on its roof on Adelaide's Linear Park trail in Vale Park just before 9.30pm on June 16.
"Emergency services were called to Ascot Avenue after a car crashed through the barrier of the linear park overpass bridge," police said.

"The Mitsubishi sedan went over the edge, dropping about five metres and landing on its roof."
The 17-year-old driver from Hendon had a lucky escape. Police said he walked away from the crash with only minor injuries.
Police are investigating the crash.
