RSPCA Launceston manager Lorraine Hamilton deemed 2015 a success, with the Launceston shelter alone adopting out 1111 animals.
The shelter is enjoying a period of high adoptions, with Northerners finding the festive season the perfect time to acquire a furry friend.
But Ms Hamilton said the centre would likely be overwhelmed with an influx of animals mid-year, when people who received pets for Christmas often become disenchanted.
‘‘January’s a really big adoption month for us,’’ Ms Hamilton said.
‘‘Back in July we had about 44 pups in the place at a time,’’ Ms Hamilton said.
‘‘Around May and June when the weather starts to get horrible, that’s when those puppies that were cute at Christmas time start coming into shelters.’’
Ms Hamilton said social media was having a great impact on adoption rates, with the shelter regularly sharing pictures of animals in need of a new home on its Facebook page.
She said the RSPCA staff loved having the opportunity to give older animals a new lease on life by finding them their forever home.
