Murray McAllister, a PE teacher at Melbourne's Pembroke Secondary College, has posted a short nine-second video clip on to YouTube which he claims shows a living, breathing Tasmanian Tiger.
Mr McAllister says he shot the footage last year and goes on to say that he has seen tiger several times over the past few years.
According to environmental news site Mongabay, the full video is more than eight minutes long and McAllister has only released a short preview.
According to the website, McAllister is in negotiations for television rights.
The last known tiger, or thylacinus cynocephalus, died in captivity in the Hobart Zoo on September 7, 1936.
Mr McAllister's dedicated thylacine website, which covers his expeditions into eastern Victoria in the search for more Tasmanian tigers, which he claims still exist in the mainland state as well as Tasmania.
His website contains details of tiger sightings dating back before 2000 until now - from both Tasmania and on the mainland.
