The COVID-19 pandemic combined with the festive period saw many furry friends adopted in 2020, but there was some discrepancy as to whether the animals stayed rehomed or not.

RSPCA Tasmanian chief executive officer Jan Davis said they did not see animals come back to them after they had been adopted during the Christmas period.
"We certainly didn't see [animals returned] last year and we haven't seen it this year," she said.
"We are not alone in that.
"I've been keeping an eye on the Dogs Home ... but across the state they have been very low on numbers."
Ms Davis said the conversations she had with colleagues across the state indicated Christmas pets being adopted and then returned was more of a myth.
"What we saw was during COVID there was such a shortage of pets but such a demand for them," she said.
For one particular dog, Ms Davis said she had over 100 people apply to adopt it.
"People that have been able to get pets over this period ... are some of the best pet owners we are going to get."

"Those who did get them had to jump through quite a few hoops."
Kitten season was also a little later this year, with the RSPCA not seeing them until after Christmas, as opposed to early December, which also potentially affected numbers.
Ms Davis said because of more stringent regulations around animals they may be seeing less unwanted pets.
However, Brightside Farm Sanctuary saw an increase in the number of animals rehomed this past week.
"I have had a massive number of animals," Brightside founder Emma Haswell said.
"It's disappointing.
"This has been my busiest ever January."
Over the last week, 105 animals were rehomed by the sanctuary.
Ms Haswell said the numbers were not standard figures however, as it included animals such as sheep.
She said when people asked the sanctuary to take an animal, they had to give a reason why.
"Some [people] have become homeless, some can't have pets with rentals, some made a mistake in the type of dog."
"Please don't take on an animal unless you want it for life."
