Launceston Alderman Rob Soward was among the dozens of Facebook users who criticised the former Australian Army brigadier over his response to a fake story alleging he claimed to have been ''heroically killed in action during services in Afghanistan''.
The anonymous author of the blog, operating on Facebook and Twitter, said Mr Nikolic then wrote ''if we didn't remove the offending story by 5pm Sunday, he would write to the employers of all the individuals who had liked the story''.
Alderman Soward called Mr Nikolic a ''glass jawed tory princess'' and has indicated he will raise the matter at Monday's council meeting.
Liberal Party president Sam McQuestin defended Mr Nikolic response.
''The activities that were being undertaken by others on Facebook was distasteful particularly as he is the father of a member serving in the Australian Army.'' Mr Nikolic has not yet returned The Examiner's calls.
A complaint to the Australian Press Council about this subject was upheld. Read the full adjudication here.
